pookkalam- Kerala

Aishwarya's Visit to Kochi

When Bollywood star and new mommy Aishwarya Rai Bachchan made a visit to Kochi, she transformed a lazy Sunday into a special one. News of her arrival spread like wild fire and fan frenzy began at the unusually overcrowded airport, with an unbelievable number of fans hanging around with phones and cameras on ready-to-shoot mode and waiting for hours together.
From passengers and staff to drivers and cleaners; the world seemed to have come to a standstill in their hope to catch a glimpse of the former Miss World. Even policemen were hoping to be able to get one picture of her.

However, it was not meant to be as Ash was travelling with her daughter
Aaradhya. So extra care was taken to ensure that the little one was safe from the public eye. The organisers even had to resort to fooling the crowd outside by stationing impressive looking cars at one side, while Ash made a safe getaway from elsewhere.

The actress finally made her public appearance for the event she had travelled for, looking fabulous in her white and
golden lehenga choli. "My last visit to Kerala was for the shoot of Iruvar. This is the second time I am visiting, though, it is Aaradhya's first," said Ash, who wrapped up the show and left just as quickly as she had arrived.

Rishi Kapoor as Villain

Veteran actor Rishi Kapoor, who won accolades for playing a villain in Karan Johar's remake of 'Agneepath', will be seen in a similar avatar for Yash Raj Films' 'Aurangzeb'.

In 'Agneepath', Rishi played the role of Rauf Lala, being dressed up in a kurta-pyjama, alongwith a karakul cap and kajal in eyes.

"Yes Rishi Kapoor will be playing the role of a villain in 'Auragzeb'," a Yash Raj Film spokesperson told PTI.

After the success of 'Ishaqzaade', actor Arjun Kapoor will also be seen in 'Aurangzeb'.

Directed by Atul Sabharwal, the film will portray Arjun in a double role and will also pair up Jackie Shroff and Amrita Singh again after almost two decades.

This film is rumoured to be a fresh take on the 1978 blockbuster film 'Trishul' and will release next year.

The Malayalam Movie-"Friday"

Friday, directed by Lijin Jose is a well-woven neatly scripted movie with minimal loopholes. The film appeals mainly because the characters are 'human' and easy to identify with. They are normal people like you and me who make blunders, learn from them and move on...
Najeem Koya's script beams with life and highlights issues and thoughts never before captured on camera. Stunning visuals by Jomon Thomas adds to the already appealing script. It takes us on a roller-coaster ride of emotions and feelings that rule everybody's hearts. Music by Roby Abraham foes well with the plot of the film.
The story of Friday revolves around many people aged young and old from diverse background, who come together due to a single incident that happens on a Friday in a small town in Alappuzha. One childless couple is planning to adopt a child, while a young autorickshaw-driver (Fahad Fazil) is angry that he is poor. There is also a young couple who are head over heels in love, a pregnant beggar and an aged man who shops for his granddaughter's wedding. What happens next? How do all these different people unite? Watch Friday to know!
Fahad Fazil seems to have carved himself a niche in doing experimental film in Malayalam cinema. He is flawless and handles his role with absolute ease and delicateness. Nedumudi Venu as usual is outstanding and extremely convincing in his role. It is difficult to single out any one actor as the entire star cast has given a brilliant performance.

The Movie-"Mirattal"

Mirattal is a remake of blockbuster Telugu movie Dhee, which starred Manchu Vishnu and Genelia D'Souza in the lead roles. The Tamil version features Vinay Rai, Sharmila Mandre and Santhanam in the key roles. Billed as a comedy entertainer, Mirattal has partially succeeded in living up to the expectations of the audience.
The movie tells the story of a fun-loving boy Bablu (Vinay Rai) and his humorous love tale with a don Shankardada's (Prabhu) sister Deepika (Sharmila Mandre). Having fallen in love with Deepika, Bablu wins the heart of her with ease and marries her. His father, played by Pandiraj, works for the don and fears that his son's act might cost the lives of his family members. The rest of the story deals with how the hero manages to give a tough time (though it fun to watch) to the gangster.
The story of the film is very ordinary and there are quite a few loopholes in the movie. But being a comedy entertainer, the audience will easily ignore those flaws. However, it can be enjoyed as it is a fun ride. The strength of the movie lies in the wonderful dialogues that make you sit till the end. On the flip side, there are boring moments too and at parts, the story runs on the expected lines.
When it comes to performance, Vinay Rai is good in his role and has given his best to do justice to his character. Kannada actress Sharmila Mandre, who has made her debut in Kollywood, comes out with decent performance. But it is Santhanam (like his all recent movies), who turns out to be the lifesaver of the movie. It is difficult to imagine the film without him, Prabhu, Pandiraj, Uma Padmanabhan, Pradeep Rawat, Ganja Karuppu, Mansoor Ali Khan and others have done justice to their roles.
Technically, Pravi Mani's music is disappointing. Only 'Kalla Paravai' crooned by Rahul Nambiar and Suvi Suresh is good in the album and Kannan's cinematography is good, as he has captured some of the beautiful locales of England.

Wedding Bells- lajjavathiye...

Music director and Malayalam playback singer Jassie Gift is getting married to Athulya, who hails from Thiruvananthapuram.
Athulya, who will be marrying Jassie is right now in the process of completing her physics research at Kannur university. Jassie Gift got noticed in the Malayalam film industry after his song 'Lajavathiye' from the movie 4 the people created an uproar in Kerala.

Meanwhile, Jassie is busy composing songs for almost seven songs for Kannada films. Jassie won best music director Filmfare award 2011 for Kannada movie Sanju Weds Geetha. The song 'Gaganavae Baagi' sung by Shreya Ghoshal and penned by Kaviraj was a hit song. The song even won best lyricist and best playback singer at the Filmfare award.

As for Malayalam films, Jassie is composing music for the lyrics penned by Kaithapram and another one by Yousuf Ali Kecheri. Jassie also has a Tamil film with director and actor Cheran in the pipeline.

"Kasthooriman" made them cry...

Vijay Sanker and Hari Krishna, children of the late director Lohithadas along with their mother Sindhu went to chief minister Oomen Chandy's office on Wednesday seeking financial help for their two properties. The two properties in question are under the process of being attached to the hypothecated banks.
Lohithadas' children requested the chief minister to help them postpone the attachment of property at Aluva. While that property bears loan of 50 lakhs, another one at Lakkidi in Ottapaalam bears a loan of 15 lakhs in the name of Lohitadas.

Kasthooriman, directed and produced by Lohithadas bombed at the Box Office and this liability led the family into debt.

The family of Lohithadas said that apart from actor Dileep, nobody from the Malayalam film industry came forward to help them

Katrina Talks

Ek Tha Tiger’s leading lady talks about her co-star Salman Khan, the movie and all about the fiery fireworks on big screen!

Tell us about Salman’s character in the movie.
I liked the way Tiger — a self-assured man — was humbled by the knowledge that he can love. He is a man of action who fights for his country; his fists do more talking that his words but somewhere in between he realises that he has a tender heart.
Salman didn’t see eye to eye with director Kabir Khan or producer Aditya Chopra....
When you have three people whose views on filmmaking are vastly different, then there would be disagreements. They all come from different schools of filmmaking. Salman is all heart in his films; he pays more attention to the emotional aspect and that’s why he has so many fans. Kabir [director] likes to stay real; he is a realist who will break down things on a molecular level to find out how they work. Aditya is a bit of both: he is a realist who understands the emotional value of a scene. So when people with such different approaches come together on a project, you can expect fireworks.

What’s dancing with
Salman like?
Salman is a natural. You show him a step and he picks it up at once. I take time. I’m mechanical but Salman learns a step and makes it his own. His fans like him because it doesn’t look like it has been choreographed for him. I have to rehearse before I am confident enough to do it.
Any special memories of the places where you’ve shot?
The most interesting part of all of this is Salman himself. According to him, wherever we have shot, the place resembled India in some way. To Salman, Dublin was like Bandra, Turkey like Rajasthan and Cuba like Marine Drive.
People are going gung-ho about the action in this film....
The action is the main draw of this film. No one has ever seen Salman doing such stunts before. Kabir wanted the stunts to look real so you don’t have people flying away with a punch. Instead, you have these gritty realistic fight scenes.
Was shooting the song Mashallah quite a task for you?
A lot of hard work and sweat went into the song. I began my rehearsals four days in advance. Unfortunately, a night before the shoot, I was down with a bad case of viral. I couldn’t shoot for the next two days. During those two days, rehearsals continued and I missed a lot. By the time I was ready to get back on set, many portions which I had rehearsed with Salman had been changed — thanks to his habit of improvising. The weather conditions were equally bad. It was unbearably hot and we had to shoot on a helipad. Somehow I managed to pull through. BM

Coming soon

The Avengers are returning for a superhero sequel three years from now.
Disney and its Marvel Studios unit announced on Thursday that the follow-up to this year’s biggest hit will arrive in theatres in May, 2015.
The studio announced last week that Joss Whedon will be back to write and direct the as-yet-untitled sequel.
Released in May, The Avengers gathered such Marvel comic-book heroes as Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), Captain America (Chris Evans), the Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) and Thor (Chris Hemsworth). The film has taken in nearly $1.5 billion (Dh5.5 billion) worldwide.
There will be plenty of Marvel action building up to The Avengers follow-up. Downey’s Iron Man 3 is due out next May, followed by Hemsworth’s Thor sequel in November 2013 and Evans’ Captain America sequel in April 2014.

Ek Tha Tiger

Wanted excited me, Dabangg entertained me, Ready made me laugh, Bodyguard confused me. Ek Tha Tiger? It tried to roar at me.
Salman Khan teams up with Kabir Khan in an extravagant Yash Raj Films production that is shot in exotic locales including Istanbul, Havana and Dublin.
The movie is about a romance between two agents -- Tiger (Salman Khan), who works for India’s RAW; and Zoya (Katrina Kaif), who works for Pakistan’s ISI.
Packed with action, romance, Khan’s signature dialogues, catchy tunes and the beauty of Kaif and slight romance, Sallu fans will be enthralled despite the screenplay being weak.

Kabir Khan, whose earlier offerings include Kabul Express and New York, seems to have written a script reminiscent of Mr and Mrs Smith – but with action sequences that are far from slick.
The camerawork is outright bad, with the body doubles’ faces very visible during the action scenes. Kaif, who has tried her hand at the stunts, is, however, fairly convincing.
Though the pace could have been faster, it is a delight to watch Khan and Kaif together, resulting in a great Eid offering for Sallu fans

Hot water, drug cocktail drowned Whitney

Whitney Houston drowned in a hot bathtub in a Beverly Hills hotel room with cocaine in her system and white powder nearby, a final coroner's report revealed on Wednesday. Detectives found white powdery substances, a rolled-up piece of paper, a small spoon and a mirror in the bathroom shortly after Houston's naked body was found face down in the bathtub on Feb 11, the 40-page Los Angeles County coroner's report said. Houston, 48, had a history of drug addiction. An autopsy in March determined she died of accidental drowning due to the effects of cocaine and heart disease. Wednesday's report revealed that Houston had a perforated nose, indicating substance abuse, filled with a bloody discharge.
Detectives said she was found in about 12 inches (30 cm) of extremely hot water, which was determined to be 93 Fahrenheit (34 Celsius) so me six hours after her death.

The singer also had traces of marijuana in her system and an open bottle of champagne was found in her room at the Beverly Hilton, hours before she was due to attend a pre-Grammy party. On a counter in the bathroom, detectives found 'a small spoon with a crystal-like substance in it and a rolled up piece of white paper.' In a drawer, they found 'a white powdery substance and a portable mirror on a base' together with more remnants of powder on the base of the mirror. Wednesday's report did not identify the substance.

The I Will Always Love You singer appears to have been left alone in the hotel room for less than an hour. Houston had complained of a sore throat and her personal assistant advised the singer to have a bath to get ready for the party while she went to a nearby Neiman Marcus department store to pick up items for her appearance. When the assistant returned, she found a naked Houston face down in the bathtub and unresponsive, according to the report. Houston was one of the world's best known singers in the 1980s and 1990s with hits such as Saving All My Love For You and I Wanna Dance with Somebody.

But her career declined during a tumultuous, drug-fueled 15-year marriage to singer Bobby Brown. She was last known to have entered drug rehabilitation in May 2011 but celebrity media reported that she was seen drinking heavily and behaving erratically in the three or four days before her death. Houston's family said in statement last month that they were 'saddened to have learned of the toxicology results' that revealed recent cocaine use, but were glad to have closure.

Mohanlal expresses wish to donate his organs

Superstar Mohanlal Saturday expressed his desire to donate his organs, citing the case of a school-girl who recovered from a severe liver disease because her aunt stepped forth to donate a slice of her own organ.

He made his desire public while speaking at a function organised by the Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences (AIMS) here to compliment the efforts of the woman, Rainy Joy, who donated part of her liver to save her 16-year-old niece Swathi.

'The return to life of Swathi, the school-girl, should open up the awareness of organ donations in the state and I wish to donate my organs too,' said Mohanlal.

Swathi was admitted to the AIMS with liver complication two weeks ago after a severe hepatitis attack and the doctors found that her liver was damaged and she required an organ transplant.

Swathi's mother could not donate owing to fatty liver problems and then her aunt volunteered. But as per the rules prevailing for organ transplant, only direct relatives can donate without documents.

At an emergency meeting called by State Health Minister V.S.Sivakumar, the permission was granted. Swathi underwent a liver transplant July 13 and is now returning to normalcy.

A four-member team of doctors at the AIMS, headed by Sudhindra Nath, performed the 12-hour-long surgery.

Rainy Joy was also present on the occasion. (IANS)
